From a neglected coastline to a community movement
Nalafehi Meedhoo was co-founded in 2017 by a passionate group of environmentally enthusiastic youth who shared a vision to transform Meedhoo into a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant island for everyone. What began as a grassroots effort to clean up the coastline — once a neglected area used as a dumping ground — quickly grew into a powerful community movement.
Through collective action and a deep love for the island, we turned those coastal areas into peaceful retreats enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. With a proper waste management system now in place, our focus has expanded to planting trees, protecting native plants and endangered animals, and safeguarding our coral reefs and marine ecosystems.
We are more than an NGO — we are a community-driven force committed to raising awareness, educating the next generation, and building a healthier, more resilient island.
